Let us tell you about the coverage available
Chapter A - Civil liability covers bodily injury or property damage caused by you.
It also covers material damage to your vehicle when you are not responsible for an accident, subject to certain conditions.
By law, all Québec vehicle owners are required to have a minimum of $50,000 in civil liability insurance.
The coverage under Chapter B - Physical damage to the vehicle is optional. However, if there is an amount owing on your vehicle or if your vehicle is leased, you will be required to have Chapter B coverage.
Chapter B is divided into four categories (comprehensive, collision, collision-free accidents, and specified perils) that offer different kinds of protection. The coverage and premiums can be tailored to your needs.
Additional coverage
We offer several additional automobile coverages on a pick-and-pay basis.

Take advantage of discounts and savings
Depending on the insurer, the following discounts and benefits may apply to your situation. A few examples:
- Special programs (FADOQ)
- Discounts when you combine your home and auto insurance
- Auto insurance for drivers aged 26-49
- Auto insurance for young drivers
Here are a few tips on how to reduce your premiums even more.
Drive carefully
Avoid increased premiums by following the speed limit and obeying traffic laws. At Groupe DPJL Assurances et Services Financiers, we reward good drivers.
Use your car less often
One small change in your driving habits could lower your premiums. Carpooling or using public transit could be ways to cut back on your driving and maybe even your premiums!
Check the cost of parts
Before buying a new car, do a little research. Is your car popular with thieves? Will replacement parts be expensive? The more you know, the better idea you’ll have about the cost of insurance.
Invest in an anti-theft system
We reward drivers who try to thwart car thieves. Have an anti-theft system installed in your car and we'll give you a discount.
Did you know?
Incorrect information (e.g., the name on the policy doesn’t match the name on the driver's license) can hinder the claim process. Check and double check!
Outside of Québec, the laws of each state and province apply. In the U.S., don’t forget to consider the exchange rate… You’ll need more civil liability insurance!
FAQ
It’s important you let your broker know, to make sure you’re fully covered. The use of a vehicle is a determining factor in the cost of insurance and the settlement of claims.
Certain information will need to be checked before confirming if your child can drive your vehicle, such as his age, address, student status, how often he will be driving the car, whether he is already the driver/owner of a vehicle. Contact your representative for more information.
Insurance premiums are established based on several different criteria, including the driver’s profile, vehicle type and market value, percentage of claims for the make, model and year, cost of repairs (parts and labour).
The vehicle is just one of the factors used to determine the insurance premium. The driver’s profile is also considered.
The reason and period of time during which a vehicle is used outside of Québec are factors in the insurer’s decision to maintain and/or modify your insurance policy. Contact your insurance representative for more information.
The most common example of a hit-and-run is damage to a vehicle in a parking lot. In order to be compensated, you must have collision insurance for the vehicle in question and file a police report within 24 hours of first noticing the damage.
If you do not have collision insurance, you can file a claim with the Fonds d'indemnisation (FIVAAQ). Contact your representative for more information.
Being involved in an accident with someone who is not insured will not affect your claim. In Québec, the Direct Compensation Agreement applies. Each driver is compensated by his own insurer based on his liability and the coverage in the insurance policy in effect.
If you are involved in an accident outside of Québec, contact your representative.
It is important you notify your insurance representative of any change (e.g., new driver, change in use, etc.) to ensure you have adequate coverage. If you omit information or make a false statement, your insurer could cancel your insurance policy or refuse your claim.
